Step 1: Ovulation induction

Before and during the in-vitro fertilization(IVF) process, your fertility specialist doctor or gynecologist  will monitor your ovaries and the timing of the egg release. Step 2: Egg retrieval procedure

Egg retrieval process is performed in a surgical suite(media) under intravenous sedation .During this step in the IVF process, a very thin needle is passed through the upper vaginal wall. With the use of vaginal ultrasound device, fluid is taken out or removed from the follicles under gentle suction.

Follicular fluids are scanned by the embryologist to locate all the available eggs. The eggs are then placed in a special media and cultured in an incubator until insemination.

Step 3: Fertilization

The next step of the IVF process is the fertilization of the egg. A sperm sample is secured, either from your partner or a donor, and the most active sperm is mixed with the egg in a special chamber ,approximately 60,000 to 100,000 motile sperm are transferred to the dish containing the eggs. Then, the sperm and egg are placed in an incubator and monitored by the doctors to make sure that a good and healthy embryo develops.

The ICSI technique is used to fertilize mature eggs if in case sperm parameters are abnormal. This process is performed under a high-powered microscope technique. ICSI technique increases the chance of that fertilization will occur if in case the semen has a low sperm count, motility, poor morphology or poor progression . Fertilization is assessed with in 17-18 hours after insemination or ICSI. The fertilized eggs are called zygotes and are cultured in a specially formulated culture medium that helps their growth.

Step 4: Embryo transfer and Implantation

The last step of the IVF process is the embryo transfer. First, the embryos are checked to select the healthiest and good ones for the transfer. Embryo transfer is a simplest process that doesn't  require any anesthesia. Embryos are placed with in a soft catheter and are placed at the uterine cavity through the cervix.  After the IVF process is finish, complete bed rest is often advised and required for a day.
